virtual memory is the memory on the hard drive being used like as though it were the actual RAM. it comes in to use when the RAM is completely filled up. when the virtual memory gets filled up too, then you get that messge. to work around:
1.) close unnecessary programs. do this by going to task manager by pressing alt+ctrl+del.
2.) increase the size of virtual memory in the pc. ideally it ought to be double the amount of RAM in your pc. do it by pressing windows key+pause key. you get system properties. goto advanced. then performance settings. then advanced tab again. then virtual memory and click "change". as easy as that.
3.) you could buy RAM but that may not be necessary. it could be costly too.

The system needs to have a block of 'virtual memory' (disk space) set aside to swap out data from the actual RAM chips. It's basically a scratch pad to write things down that it can retrieve when needed.

If the minimum size is too small, then the scratch pad isn't big enough to contain everything in RAM, and the system performance will be affected. This error/message shows up a lot when people add more RAM (because now they need more virtual memory too!)

I'd recommend that you let Windows manage the memory settings - when it does an automatic resize like this, be sure and restart the system when it tells you OR after the resize is completed.

Virtual Memory: This is system memory that is simulated by the hard drive. When all the RAM is being used (for example if there are many programs open at the same time) the computer will swap data to the hard drive and back to give the impression that there is more memory.

The easiest way to fix it is to buy more RAM, it is very cheap. Before you do that find out what type of RAM your pc has as there are several.

Hi Buddy,
Wassup?

See, there is a physical memory available to OS in form of RAM (U must be having 256 KB or More)

Now there is another type of memory callled the Virtual Memory..
Virtual memory is usually implemented using paging.

Its paging file is stored as per the default config...but u can also config it.

In virtual memory , Paging file (or space) will be used as a RAM (Here Harddisk will be used as RAM)

U can increase the size of Virtual Memory by going to

My Computer < Control Panel < System < Advanced (TAB) < Virtual Memory (button)

Change to whatever u think is good N according to free space in ur hard drive !

PeaceOut,
Viny

Programs that are being used are stored in the memory. The RAM is one type of memory that is used first, and then when it is full up, it begins to use the virtual memory which is on the hard drive.

when it says the virtual memory is too low, it quite often means that something is using up a lot of memory and you have too many things open. then it increases the space on the virtual memory, and it should then be fine!

The easiest way to fix a virtual memory shortage IS NOT buying ram, although th more the better, You need to increase the size of your page file, Virtual memory , is just that , its space on your hard drive allocated to memory, Go to control panel , System Advanced tab, Performance, Settings, Advanced,at the bottom of window is a section entitled virtual memory, set the page file to 2.5 times - 3 times , your System memory, Trust me , its not a Security issue, you just need more space set aside on your hard drive, which is minimal

You have to many programs running. Use Task Manager to END TASK some of the junk.

The best thing to do, is to get rid of these SPYWARE, ADWARE and other bogus tasks. Use MSCONFIG at the RUN command and UNCHECK anything but your anti-virus software. Reboot to be sure, then check.

Keep your own Anti-virus up to date, and check the status regularly.

Get and update several Anti-spyware solutions. I use AD-AWARE and SpyBot Search & Destroy. I use the free versions from http://www.download.com Update and run these regularly. Especially IMMEDIATELY after an upexpected pop-up.

Download and install FireFox free from http://www.mozilla.com This is a browser that is safer to use than IE. Use this for general surfing and google searching. Only use IE when you MUST have IE, such as Windows Updates.

If you have Windows XP with SP2, activate the Windows firewall and check the status. If you don't, get Zone Alarm the free version from http://www.zonelabs.com

Take these steps to keep your computer ALIVE.

You have to increase the size of your paging file. Default size is 1.5 times the size of your installed RAM, but you can go higher. Right click on My Computer and click Properties. Click on the Advanced tab and Settings in the Performance box. Then click on the Advanced tab again and the Change button at the bottom. This is where you adjust the size.

if your using xp then right click on my computer then go to properties then the advanced tab. There is a performance section, click the settings button and then go to the advanced tab, youll see at the bottom where it says virtual memory. Theres a change button. click that and youll be able to see your virtual memory, and its recommended settings. If it says you dont have enough raise it to the recommended levels.
