There isn't ( and never has been )free speech.
You pay the consequences for your words.
Anyone that use the word 'gay' as an insult, deserves everything they get.

Free speech means the governmen't can't shut you up.
Yahoo is a private company. They answer only to their shareholders, advertisers and customers.
They want to be popular, so they do their best to make sure the maximum number of people come here and see the ads, so they can tell their advertisers how many hits they have a day and charge the highest rates they can get for ads.
But ultimately It's their playground and they make the rules, whether we like it or not. If we all got off in protest they may change the rules, but we have no "right" to post here.
That's the cold hard truth.
PS I guess the only way to post WHATEVER you want is to get your own server, etc. and start your own site. I guess you'd need your own EVERYTHING, since if a big private company is involved at any stage they are afraid of lawsuits and could impose rules.
Legally, we have no guarantee of "freedom of speech" here, bust in a larger sense yes I do feel like too many people get offended so easily and are all to happy to silence opposing views.
Would any of us want to censor anything on our sites? Or let everything go, as long as it was legal, even if it was something that really offended us? I wonder . . .

America's first Amendment right states, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."
What that means is that you have the freedom to speak your mind, voice your opinion and speak freely. Irregardless of your location, the first ammendment right still applies. However, there are restrictions that do abridge your freedom. For example, you can't shout, "FIRE!" in a crowded movie theatre, because it causes panic and disturbance. It is true that you have the "freedom" to shout "FIRE!", but there are circumstances where your right is subsided for the saftey of others.
You are allowed to voice your opinion. You can call Mr. Bush any form of vulgar or profane insult, but if you make a statement such as, "I'm going to kill President Bush", then again, your right is pushed aside, and the saftey of others is the top priority.
As another poster stated, your "freedom of speech" doesn't apply if you infringe upon the rights of others. Yahoo astericts out vulgar and profane language because it is a family orientated site, and it isn't a website for people to voice their opinions and make speeches, it's a website for people to ask questions, and recieve the opinions of others.
Be educated about your rights before you speak.

Don't know what you're worried about... I got a warning first thing today for telling someone "You should be ashamed of yourself" because the nature of their posting, was offensive to certain portions of its readers.
I appealed, stated my case, but they said the question was removed by the asker. I haven't heard back from yahoo as yet.
Since then though, I've had 5 best answers... so, we'll see what transpires I guess. See if the red card stands and exactly what it means!

i no...isn't that rong
I know, isn't that wrong.
Let's work on spelling, too.
I thought free speech was alive and well here.
Yahoo just asks you to control the color of your speech.
Seems to me that Yahoo is GIVING you a forum for personal expression. How does that limit your free speech?
This country is raising a bunch of morons.I feel sorry for the next generation.

Free speech, like our other hard won rights, has been abolished in the name of Democracy. And they say Americans don't do irony! Britain is just as bad - I'm thinking of emigrating.

You strangled it with your narrow mind.
Actually they do care about free speech. Homosexuals should be able to go somewhere without fear of a petty idiot like you starting trouble.
Go out and do something useful.

freedom of speech doesn't apply if you infringe upon the rights of others. yahoo is simply protecting the 20 million other people from your uneducated, foul-mouthed, trailer-trash, self-centered, low-life choice of profanity. And quite rightly, too.
