it can consist of more. it just depends on how complex the developer wanted the virus to be and what he wanted to attack.
because some has to be encoded into a .exe or even a .jpg(image) file and it was basically eat your hard drive. Although i haven't seen any virus's this complex or destructive, it's possible

A virus may be only a line of computer code (binary) that sits on your hard drive and waits until conditions meet its criteria and then it acts.
No, it is not something that is written in a language that you would recognize, (unless you can read computer code) and you probably could not find it in any case as it is often embedded into another program.

A virus is basically a program... binary code (0's and 1's) designed to do certain tasks. In this case to delete, hack, email, or other nasty things.

Viruses attach themselves to programs you already have running, that's why they are hard to heal. when you delete them you often take part of your program with it and your application never works the same again!
