Basically you have to ask yourself some very important questions. First if you make the pt job full time, can you make ends meet with out finding another part time job? Have you even asked for a raise? If not, get the courage and practice how you will ask for the raise, and follow through by asking. Make sure you have your info to present your case as far as how long you have been there, and what assests you bring to your employer. If you are denied, tell them you understand but have to give your two week notice because financially you have to do what is best for you. See if that changes the tune of your employer. If not, then follow through with your notice and in those two weeks look for something as a part time job if you need it. That way you have two weeks of pay to fall back on. If you think long and hard about it, don't you think your boss is taking advantage of your friendship by not paying you what you are obviously worth? Best of luck.

The important thing is not to burn bridges. You may need a reference from the full time job someday, so try to leave amicably. If the major problem with job is that they are not paying enough then you should ask for more money. The squeaky wheel gets the grease as they say. Your employer is running a business and trying to keep their labor cost down. Have a calm meeting and tell the person who makes payroll decisions (not your coworkers) that you want to make a better wage, don't threaten them but instead, ask what can I do to increase my value. If all else fails 2 weeks is a reasonable notice to allow them to replace you. Don't be intimidated a smart business person knows when they have a valuable employee and will try to accommodate you, but if you don't voice your concerns how can they know what you need. Every time you leave a job ask for a letter of recommendation from someone you trust at work. They look good attached to your resume'.

Best time to quit the job is when you feel you will not have a future in it. Take a moment of reflection and sense if this is really what you want to do, Maybe your PT job is opening a door for your or maybe just tempting you with immediate rewards then will make you professionally suffer
If you think you have to let go of your current FT job, don't make it a problem if your boss is wonderful..that is a personal perception...just think if they have to cut back costs, they will not even think twice to leave you jobless.
Professional decision requires overview and courage-every decision you make there's always a price to pay...just make it in a way that the loss is at minimal.
Good Luck

If you do not want to upset the people that you work with now then you need to first make sure that you are guaranteed a ft job with the other company.Next you need to approach the boss and tell them that you have decided to go another route with your career and that you need to give them 2 weeks notice that you will be leaving the company. They really cannot hold that against you for giving them notice and wanting to better yourself. If they do get upset, then you need to tell them that you were just trying to do what was right by giving them notice but you can just quit them right now if that is what they want.Just do it,this happens every day and they are probably use to it and if they do not understand that then they are not very nice and they do not deservr to have you as an employee anyway. They will get over it.
good luck

since you mentioned that you are working 2 jobs to make ends meet, it wouldn't be wise to quit one of the jobs without making sure you either have another one or you are guaranteed that you will be working full time elsewhere. let your employer know that you are interested in working full time. be extra helpful. in other words, make yourself visible so they know that you are serious about your employment there. as for the other job, do what you have to do just to keep the paycheck coming but don't offer to help out with projects or things outside of your job description. if they ask you to do it, the you have no choice but it does not sound like they appreciate your work anyway so say exert the extra effort? good luck!

You need to decide what means more to you: money or the "wonderful owners." Since you're working two jobs, it's obvious you can't support yourself with just your FT job and that you've pretty much been screwed in the year you've been there. (So, why are these people "wonderful"?) Approach your part-time job to find out if they'd take you full-time. If so, quit your current full-time job.
If you have misgivings about doing that, then you're not ready to quit yet.

Well the first thing you need to do is ask them about a promotion, and a raise, see what they say, if they that in abit more time then stay with them, if they say no, or anything else negative, then quit, or threaten to quit, because if you were important to their company then they will have no choice but to promote you.

tell them you have job offer with better pay and benefits, but you would like to give them a chance to match it or beat it. let them know its not personal and that its hard times and you need more to make ends meet. like others said, have the other job lined up before you confront your ft employer. good luck :)

Generally you get a review and salary decision every year. I would wait until the year is up and see what happens. Don't wait longer than that. Let the owners know you expect a review within a month of your anniversary date. If it does not happen, move on immediately.

Approach the PT job and ask if full time is a possibility. If it is then give the other job your notice and your off.
