See my parents want me to dance, I don't mind dancing on stage or anything. But I want to go somewhere else that same day, same time, and I told my parents about it. But they said I had to dance because they told the people I would and everything, so its all set. Except I don't really want to miss it, because I get to hang out with all my friends, and everything. But they already said I couldn't.

do this one thing for your parents-they've done so much for you,and you'll hang out with your friends some more, some other time...

Then you have to listen to your parents sorry to say. All you said was that you "get to hang out with your friends" and I'm sure you can do that any other time. You didn't make it seem like a big deal the hanging with the friends part. The dancing part, though, with the arrangements and telling all the people, that makes it seem like it's bigger than just hanging out and so I'm sure you and your friends can set up another date. Best of luck,

~Have a nice day~

You made a commitment to dance, so you should stick with it. It's the responsible thing to do. Throughout life you're going to have to do things you'd rather not be doing, but it's a part of life we all have to deal with. If you've lost interest in performing, let your parents know about it. I'm sure they wouldn't want to force you into pursuing something you no longer enjoyed. But you've agreed to do this particular performance, so at least honor this commitment. Otherwise you'll be letting a lot of people down. And your friends will always be there.

Do it for your folks. To lessen your disappointment, ask permission to do something fun. Maybe ask if you could have a small party with your good friends, so you can make up for not being with them that day.

You don't really want to miss the dance intentionally. Otherwise you will never hear the end of it, and it damages your relationship with your parents. Not worth it!

By the way your parents must be really proud of you for your dancing skills!

What are you hesistating between?

Hanging out with friends v. dancing? If so, go dancing.

However, if the 'hanging out with friends' side of the equation is something that you only seldom do, I would say go to that.

My 2 cents: Only if the thing you wanted to do is EXTREMELY CRUCIAL, do it. If it's not, go dancing, listen to your parents, and blahblahblah. Pout about it if you want, or just get over it.

Well... as long as you live under your parents roof, you have to do what they want

If you ditch the dance, then you wont get to hang out with friends the next day cuz you'll be grounded..

weigh your pros and cons

Your best decision in this case is to honor what your parents have asked of you. You will not be sorry. Give your parents the chance to be proud of you in front of their friends and other people. You will be proud of yourself as well. Good luck and I hope you dance.

Tough choice... disappoint your parents or yourself.

Once you are 18 you can feel free to disappoint your parents and even enjoy it. Until then you are limited to tormenting them.

After your dance performance just smile sweetly and tell them you are still contemplating ways to make them pay for making you unhappy. ;-) You'll see on their faces real disappointment then. (Of course once you turn 30 or so you'll remember and wish you had not done it.)
