I am a new mom of a 4 week old baby boy. Most of the time he sleeps very well and soundly. But there are times he will cry out while sleeping but not wake up. He cries out and goes right on sleeping. Is there anybody else whose baby does this and knows if it's normal or ok?

Sure, babies dream just like everyone else.

Yes that is normal. The baby is having dreams just like a normal person would. My doctor said to put soothing slow music on for the baby and the crying should go down to a minimum or maybe none at all. My baby after a few weeks didn't cry.

Being a new mother, I understand why you might be worried about your child crying in his sleep. I'm sure a bunch of different things the young lad does worries you but it's all part of the life cycle. A baby takes in a TON of new information thier first year of life. Way more than a brain should handle BUT that's all part of the life cycle for a child. A baby crying, laughing, moaning, etc... in thier sleep is just the child dreaming.

Yes, my 4 month old son started doing this in his second month, I think. It almost seems like he's having a bad dream? Sometimes I need to hold my hand on him, and sometimes that wakes him up and sometimes it doesn't, but it seems to soothe him back into a more peaceful sleep. Sometimes I actually have to wake him up before he realizes all is well and goes back to sleep. And sometimes, he seems shaken up and still whimpers afterwards for a while, and he only does that after having one of these seemingly "bad dreams." My other theory is that maybe he's having gas pains, sharp bowel movements.

It is entirely normal. Babies have dreams, and what are called night terrors. My daughter is 2 now and she laughs in her sleep, and makes whimpering noises. My son is 7 and he does the same thing.

lol, my son does this too. The first time he did it i was in the other room, and heard a scream. Its perfectly normal. Your son was probably just dreaming of the birth:-)
