Are you male or female? Either way I think a "freedom tat" on your wrist is a bit much. What kind of profession do you want to get in to? Lots of corporations have restrictions on visible tattoos. I have two and both of them are visible, only if I choose them to be.

A very unique tattoo needs to be a colaboration between the artist and the person getting tattooed. Go find a shop you like, give the artist some ideas of what you picture on your wrist, background info on your abusive childhood, if you want black and shaded or full color, size etc.
Get the ball rolling on your affirmation of freedom.
Sorry your parents sucked.

You know what, go to a good parlor and tell your story to the artist and he'll come up with something amazing and unique for you. I too was abused and I let the artist have total freedom with my tat. I love it and it has really helped me heal.

lord why go to a shop that doesn't employ good artists? Famous doesn't always mean good.
You can find artists with greater skills a lot closer to you.
as far as what to get, only YOU can decide. look inside yourself and find something that you can't live without rather than something you can live with. And good luck finding someone to place a first tattoo on someone your age in such a visible spot.

the respond to your question is so subjective. Freedom capacity some thing distinctive to a lot of human beings. What ever you think of shows freedom may be the only you get. be sure you locate it irresistible. you will seem at it for something of your life.

when i wanted to get a tatoo i didnt know what i wanted but i decided on a sunflower because my great grandma and i were really close and her favorite flower was the sunflower and she passed away 2 years ago. but its good that you are chosing something with alot of meaning to you! good luck!!
