Have you fell victom to this scam?

Question

Someone emails you claiming to be from another country. They ask if they could mail you travelers checks, upon you recieving them, you have to cash them take 20% for you and mail the rest back to them? If so let me know?

I actually went through with it, they mailed me the checks and right away I knew this was a scam. The checks however look very real. I just want to warn as many people as possible. Please DO NOT FALL VICTOM TO THIS SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!

kind of. In my case it was checks, not traveler's checks.

big nightmare!!!.

These scam artists count on you being able to get the cash before the check actually comes back good or bad. They even tried to get me to send them a big chunk of it before the 10 day hold was up.

And in my case, the bank only held the check funds for 10 business days, and the checks didn't come back fraudulent until like 13 days.

By then, of course I had spent what I was supposed to have kept, and consequently was held liable by the bank for those funds I spent.

Be kind to yourself, don't fall for it.

If you do not check a company before entering into a transaction, you could lose your money, time and credibility. Some widely used resources are the Better Business Bureau (www.bbb.org) and the national fraud center (www.fraud.org) these days, you can easily find out more about a company using the internet in a few minutes. From a company's website, you can details about its ownership, how old the company really is and feedback from the company's customers.

Thanks for the warning.
I've been e-mailed several times similar messages, but I have never answered.
Notice that they can be infected and opening them you could harm your PC.
You've been given a wonderful link from the previous answerer in order to check if a site is trustworthy or not.
If you want to report them, you have to evidentiate the full headers, following the instructions of your e-mail provider and then send the report to them and to [e-mail] either.
There is also another search engine that will help you in your research, it is the arin.net (check it out better,I don't remember exactly the address) if you wish to proceed further. And of course, the consumer's association that deal with fraud.

My husband's cousin fell for something similiar to this . . . I can't remember the details but I know he dug himself into some major debt. He cashed the checks, kept his part, and mailed some off -- then the checks bounced and he was up a creek . . .

No but i heard it's a serious scam one in which these people as you for all of your information in advance stating their reason is because they have to be able to trust you meanwhile it's to steal your identity among other things.

That type of scam is so obvious, and there has been so much publicity about them that only the stupidest of the dumbest morons would fall for it!

Yeah I been emailed the same sh*t, its better to just delete it, and ignore, because you would be in a whole bunch of crap if you do it.
