Yes, homophone
homo- greek for "same"
phone- greek for "sound"
which is a subcategory to the general homonym, which can include homographs (words spelled the same but mean different things, like lead (metal) and lead (be in front))
My favorite homophone is ceiling/sealing.

A homophone or homonym. The more modern of the two is homonym, according to my English teacher, but homophone works just as well. The only difference is that a homonym more often has the same spelling, as well as the same sound.

i imagine there are extra in English because English spelling isn't so commonplace, yet indexed the following are some examples of words which sound a similar yet are spelt in yet differently in different languages. eg: Italian "anno" and "hanno" sound a similar, in French "on" and "ont" or "ami" and "amie", etc Spanish "tu" and "tú", "ha" and "a", "he" and "e" ("e" used for the word "and", instead of "y", before a vowel) Sounding diverse yet spelt a similar is a lot less uncomplicated, yet eastern kanji may have a similar meaning yet be stated completely in yet differently, eg the kind for "East" is stated "higashi" in a word like "East go out" ("higashi guchi", yet is stated "To" in "Tokyo" (meaning "east city") - a similar image for East is utilized in both.
