English is not my first language and I even know how to use these

It bothers me, more than misspelling, that english speaking people can not use the correct grammar for such simple things.

I have even seen signs, labels, and menus with those mistakes as well as things written by college grads! A college grad can not use simple grammar - what did he/she learn in school?

they are not only abbreviations, they have two different meanings, so when you use them indifferently, reading your answers becomes very annoying.

Don't forget there, their and they're.

And my favorite.."a lot" is two words, not one.

Don't get me started.

Most college grads learned what a beer bong was, how to become a member of the Mile High Club, how to blow off classes for a week at a time by holding poker tournaments or playing X-Box, but mostly they learned how to be as lazy as possible and not give a royal rat's @$$ about it. Higher education? Yeah, right!

I think the miss-use of the English language on this site is disgraceful. Do they not know that it is a reflection on their personal character and intelligence. Do they not care? Have some pride folks. At least use the "check spelling" option provided

except that there is a burgeoning e-dialect which is different from standard written english. the rules and conventions of standard written english apply less and less online (though I agree with your dismay regarding the "real" world).
