when some one calls a white person a redneck, it would be like some one calling a black person a ****ger. but, most people called a redneck dont care. its just like the word ****ger. it was originally used to hurt a person, but it has evolved to everyday language. for example, my friends always kid around and call me a redneck, or hillbilly, whatever. I just laugh along with them. as far as redneck being used in corelation with racing-yes it used to just be country folks that watched nascar, but it too has evolved to be and american sport. we now have drivers from california, new york, and various other places. the popularity of racing has spread throughout the US, but the stereotype that only'rednecks'enjoy it, is still there. i hope this has given you a better understanding of the word and racing.

Well considering I'm from good ole Mississippi I am called a redneck often. Many people use it as a derogatory term. However, if they would take the time to look it up they would find that a redneck was a term used to describe hard working farmers. They were called rednecks because they worked outside everyday and their necks were almost always red from the sun. We look over it and take it as a complement. The truth is, we spend so much time outside that most of us are truly "red" necks.

A redneck is in other words a hill-billy or a hick. Redneck can be either derogartory or congratulatory.
-Its congratulatory if say, a group of them are hanging out and drinking beer, and one of them says to the other, Your a 'Neck'.
-Its derogatory if your called a redneck for driving a truck.

The term "redneck" is largely derogatory and refers to supposedly lower-class lower-intelligence blue-collar folks who live out in the sticks and work outdoors a lot (they get that red neck because they're out in the sun so long). Want a discourse on rednecks? Listen to any comedy CD by Jeff Foxworthy or watch the "Blue Collar Comedy Tour" DVDs.

This is a dictionary definition of redneck:
Used as a disparaging term for a member of the white rural laboring class, especially in the southern United States.
A white person regarded as having a provincial, conservative, often bigoted attitude.
I believe the origin came about from poor white folk who spent their working days out in the fields (with their heads down), thus the back of their necks became sunburned and, perhaps permanently red.

A redneck is how nascar fans are called. Hopefully because it's derogatory.
Because they don't understand the true value of REAL racing. Like Formula 1. >:P

It's usually a derogatory term for an unintellegent Southern/Midwestern American. There are a whole host of stereotypes to go along with it; that they're unhealthy, unsanitary, inbred, hostile, etc. Sometimes it's used as a term of ironic respect, meaning someone is tough and lives the All-American blue-collar life.

BEING A REDNECK IS NOT OFFENSIVE FOR THOSE OF US THAT WORK HARD FOR A LIVING.I'M 53 AND THE TIME I WAS IN THE MILITARY I PICKED UP THE NICK NAME 'REDNECK" AS I AM FROM ALABAMA.NOW IF YOU CALL SOMEONE FROM THE SOUTH A 'CRACKER' THEN YOU ARE BEING DEROGATORY,THIS IS THE SAME AS USING THE "N" WORD.
AS FOR F-1 RACING ,"IF YOU CAN'T DRIVE IT TO THE STORE FOR A SIX PACK,THEN IT AINT WORTH RACING!"
