I've got a voip internet phone, not just because it costs so much less, but because it lets me do more. For instance, I can travel anywhere, take my adapter with me and if it's plugged into a broadband connection, people can call me at my regular number and reach me. Even if I'm half a world away. Plus, I get for free all the premium features (Caller ID, three-way calling, voicemail, etc...) that my phone company wants to charge tons for.

Voip.com is, I think the best deal out there. The quality is great and you get more features than any other provider, from what I've seen. If you're looking for a basic unlimited national calling plan (that lets you call anyone in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico for free) they have one for $19.95/month. If you want to call other places, the rates are a lot less than other providers--they're practically free. And if you call another voip.com member, no matter where they are the call is free.

You get a free adapter, free SoftPhone (calling from your PC), and their international long distance rates are super cheap. It's totally easy, no sign-up fee, no complicated rate plans, and no annual contracts.

Voipcheap, the best so far, skype is not totally free niether is vonage, however with Voipcheap you can call dozens of countries landlines for nothing including the UK/USA, calls to UK mobiles only cost 4p, texts cost 4p, In order to stop getting your calls cut off after a few minutes and make them unlimited (timewise) you just pay £10 into your account which lasts for 90 days and if you don't use you lose it, if you make a chargeable call the cost is deducted from your credit, but at £10 for 3 months it's the cheapest by far.

ps skype is only free to other skype users, £0.012 a minute to landlines worldwide - Skype Credit starts at just £10. Webpage info

I don't get internet phone. You still have to have a high speed connection to the internet from your phone company. I just don't get it.

I think Vonage is running a $19.99 special though.
