I haven't decided. I've heard both good and bad about the strap ones, but I'm not going to go out and buy one until I've heard more.

I have both the kind that fits on the end of the filter like a socket wrench and the strap type. Both work but the strap type is a bit tougher to turn if space is limited. It requires you to reach up and turn the handle and if space is limited the handle may be difficult to turn.

I like to kind that fits on the end of the filter because it is easier to use a socket wrench with an extension to turn the filter off than to use a strap.

If you find yourself in a tough spot needing to get the filter off in the mean time, I've put a screw driver into one side of the filter, keeping it close to the wall of the filter the punched it through another side or angle of the filter (you can't punch it completely straight through) then turn the screw driver. This is very messy way to do it, but I was stuck at a small truck stop and my rig wasn't going anywhere until I could change the filter, they had no filter wrenches.

While strap and band types might be able to get the job done for you, a cap wrench (which fit on the end of the filter and use a ratchet to turn) are generally lighter (less hand fatigue) and cant skip ( they're built to fit certain filter sizes).

I use this style on most of my vehicles. The swivel handle gets it into many tight spots. I have to use a socket type on the wife's van because there is no room to use any other type, I've tried. The socket always needs to be knocked off the filter. It never just pulls off. May be a minor complaint, but it bothers me.

I personally have both but what happens is I end up stabbing a screwdriver into the filter and taking it off that way and you know what its the best way to get it off!! Ofcourse to put it back on you simply use your hand so there is no problem there good luck!
