any viral infection is potentially contagious. Cover your mouth with a kleenex when you cough or sneeze and discard it immediately, then wash your hands. Avoid touching your face and keep washing regularly. Drink lots and lots of liquids. Most viral infections are self limiting, and are fought off by the immune system in 7 to 14 days.

don't listen to the previous post about syphilis.. this sounds like hand, foot, and mouth disease. it is caused by a coxsackie virus. it is not serious, but viral meningitis is a rare complication. so as long as you feel ok (you know, normal sick feeling: achy, tired, fever not too high) don't worry. if you get a high fever and very sore stiff neck, see a doctor. meningitis is not something to fool around with. you are probably contagious though. so steer clear of daycares and pregnant women. feel better soon!
