It really depends on the area in which you live. Check your lease agreement. In the areas where I had rentals no interest was to be paid on any deposit. I didn't take section 8,but it would apply to that as well.

if you put the deposit then yes but if the deposit was made section 8 then no. the interest is small don't stress it.

If you were supporting yourself, instead of living on government subsidies, that might be a valid question. The answer would still be NO. That is MY money that is paying your rent. Would you sell your computer and pay my house note for just one month.
