I guess you're talking about Ermac. He shot a green energy ball...that's all I really remember. I didn't really use him that much. I've never heard that rumor about his origin.

Technically there are 2 red ninjas, the robotic ones and the human ones.
In Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 where they are both present, the red robot ninja is Sektor, and the human ninja is Ermac.

early versions of MK had a red scorpion. In the sequels the red one was Ermac.
