Just an idea;
my opinion is this,
If you are only staying with the baby's father right now because you think it is good for your child, then this is a mistake.
Give the baby your last name.
If the baby's father is not someone you truly see yourself with in the long term.
Give the baby your last name.
If you love the father and he loves you and the baby, and only wants to provide your family with the best, and you are planning to wed.
Give the baby his last name.
If you are in an abusive relationship, for example
he has hit you in the past, he demeans you, he is verbally abusive, he is a drug user, he is an alcoholic, then leave him now, and when the baby is born, Give the baby your last name, and put on birth certificate, I do not know who the father is. This will help you, later. Trust me.
If none of this applies.....
If the Father is fantastic, a bread winner, loving and supportive, you have no doubts at all about him, then give the baby his last name.
Personally, since you are not married, I would just give the baby your name. You can always change it if you are married, but it is almost impossible to change afterwards.
Safest bet is your name, especially, if you are not married. Make sure to check out government assistance, even if, you think you do not qualify. WIC, food stamps, anything that will help you get a good start for you and your child is good.
Your family is looking out for you. Perhaps they know a little bit about what they speak, you should trust them.

I went through this situation. I knew we were going to get married then he cheated on me after I gave her his last name. Now that I am married to someone else and even though he has no rights to her at all (biological father) I still have to go to court and spend all this money to get her last name changed. It is really up to you but I would go with keeping your name for the baby. If you get married then they will change it no problem.. Good Luck

If you plan on marrying the guy, the baby should get the father's last name. If you don't see marriage in your future, the baby should get your last name.

Maybe have the babies middle name be your last name or use a family members name from your side for first name. I am sure your relatives will compramise. But if they don't who cares! It is your child.
