I think it's all about the same. Today we stress about our job, relationship problems, finances, the current economic situation, not having enough time to get a lot of sleep, etc.

Two thousand years ago, people stressed about other stuff such as protecting themselves from being prey to wild animals, trying to cure a sick child, hoping it would rain enough this season to ensure the crop wouldn't die and you would have enough food to eat, etc.

How happy would you be if you had to search for food everyday and worry about a large animal eating you. What if you needed a dentist? I would say people are happier today!

In some ways, yes, and in others, no...Life if more luxurious, certainly, but think about social things. For instance, growing up, I had to watch what I say, because if i say "do it" everyone laughs. Or, if I say finger it, people laugh and say "no sexual content around us please"...theyre joking, of course, but imagine if we didnt have to worry about taking what we say the wrong way...That would make life a lot simpler

happy is happy. they thought at that time they were happy (in the aspect of what was considered happy)

times now though we have less deaths from simple sickness's but then like now there have always been wars and despair. better question could be.. were things more simple 1k yrs ago. (no phones, no telecommuting etc)

happiness is as happiness does

like now, individuals back then earned their happiness each day.

some individuals learned to "bloom where they were planted."

I've been to very rural areas of 3rd world countries, and I've seen a lot of smiles, laughter, and other joyful activities there.

no HIV ------------------------great entertainment---
no nuclear weapons ------technological advancements
no acid rain/global warming ---been to moon and back

these are just some
