If done via laparoscopic cholycystectomy, you will have the tiniest of scars - less than 1/2 inch - on your right side and a nearly invisible one through the belly button, which becomes less even less noticeable with time. Recovery is as with other lap surgery; about 2 weeks to be back to full function again. This is assuming surgery goes well and has no complications of course; everyone is different. The pain from the surgery compared to gall bladder attacks is like comparing skinning your knee to a car wreck - you will feel SO much better after surgery! Good luck.

If laparscopic methods are used, there will be three puncture wounds, two on the upper right side of your abdomen and one near your navel.....recovery time is usually two or three days, so do it on a Friday be back at work Monday. Foolish to go back sooner even if you feel fine because activity can cause internal bleeding. Pain is minimal and well controlled with a mild pain med like codiene. If however, due to circumstance, you must have an open surgery, meaning an incision to access the gall bladder, you can plan on being off work for at least two weeks, experience considerable discomfort, and risk infection. Not to mention the side effects of anesthesia for open abdominal surgery. Best to ask these questions of your physician.

Depends on the type of surgery. Most of the time this is done laparascopically if possible, which leaves 3 or 4 tiny incisions (i" or less) is not as invasive and is much easier to get over. You can go home the same or next day and shouldn't spend more than 2 wks tops out of work. Pain is entirely subjective, but this way involves minimal discomfort from those I know who have had it.
If the surgery can't be done that way & you have the older method it leaves a larger incision (several inches long), is invasive abdominal surgery (which means more pain), requires hospitalization and may require 4-6 wks out of work, depending on healing, complications, etc.
Opt for the laparascopic method if possible.

My husband had his taken out several years ago. He's so happy now that he doesn't have pain from those darned attacks he had before the operation. Feel better, Amy! I'm sure it will all go well and you'll be back "answering" with us really soon! Edit: My husband has NO problems with his stomach since the operation. It was a wonderful thing for him, because the gall bladder attacks were disabling and since then he feels great. Don't listen to those yoyos.

It depends if you have the laser surgery or regular. I had the knife and I have a six inch scar down my upper abdomen I was out of work for a month but their were complications with my surgery you might heal faster if no complications. If you are lucky enough to get the laser surgery the scar is three tiny dots and you can be back to work in a week tops. i didn't have a choice cause of swelling but if you get the choice I would go for the laser. I was in the hospital for a week after having the knife surgery. this was 5 years ago so the procedure might have changed a little bit Good luck and best wishes to ya♥

I recently had mine removed. They currently use the laproscopic method which leaves only 2 or 3 small puncture wounds. You can probably go back to office work after 1 day.

I had mine removed about 7 years ago and I have about a 1" mark right below my breasts, another one on my right side and a small one in my bellybutton. I didn't have much pain and was off work about a week (per dr. orders). I would have gone back sooner.

It depends on how it is removed. Now a days IF POSSIBLE three little incision. If its TOO ENLARGED the cut will be from under you right nipple down your side to your belly button. Avoid FATTY FOODS AND WHEN EATING DONT DRINK ALOT WITH FOOD.
