The really frustrating thing is that when I play against myself I always lose.

Yes, when you're actually playing the game, you're involved in the same way you would be with any other game... playing it is always more fun than watching it (which makes it move faster).

This would be true with ANY game, not just chess.

For the record (referring to an earlier post), Bobby Fischer played Boris Spassky in 1972, not Garry Kasparov.

The Fischer/Spassky games themselves were not televised (Fischer would not allow it). However, here in the states, PBS did play the moves of the games as they happened as well as analyzing the moves on an analysis board.

I remember very well watching the PBS shows and following the games with some of my friends... I'd love to know who the analysts were that described the games... I'm sure they got some other grandmasters of that time to do the analysis (or IM's at the very least).

Yes very quick . . . . probably has NOTHING to do with the fact that I don't know how to play, and I get check mated in 2 minutes, or less.

yes... i do play chess... my rating is 1356.... it does feel slower to watch chess... did u watch the kasporov-fischer match on pbs? it was in 1972.... fischer was the first american champion... he beat the soviet kasparov.... those games were slow...

yes but then again i don't watch chess games, but i'm sure it is faster when you play.
