I personally like the mall, because you can see the best variety in the shortest time.

Kays and some jewelry stores (Kay affiliates) have policies that let you exchange your diamond ring in the future, and receive FULL store credit as long as you spend the same amount on something else. I think that is just awesome...

As far as price...just depends on your financial situation. A good 1/2 carat solitaire should run you about 1k.

Make sure your get one with GOOD clarity, cut, and color. Of course all that means is an increase in price, but it is worth it - don't wanna get a yellow diamond.

Also...All jewelry shops are lit bright, so definitely check out the ring in not so great lighting to see if it is still sparkley.

They have nice rings at Zales, but if you are looking for somehing a little less expensive, try here online. I looked on eBay last night, actually, and I found some really nice stuff. I am so not big on spending alot of money, so I say, if it's just an engagement ring, and not the with wedding band or the actual wedding ring, I wouldn't spend more than $1000...which is so hard for most women. Personally, I wouldn't mind getting a nice, but not so real diamond for like $500, but that's just me.

Make sure you don't go to a jewelry store chain, like Kay Jewelers, because their stuff is junk. Go to a nice jewelry store that is independent. The amount you spend depends on the quality of the diamond. You can buy a large stone that has a bad rating or you can get a smaller higher quality diamond for the same price. Make sure you check the stone out really well. Good luck!

I would say the right amount to spend is what he can afford. Why spend the money on a ring that could be used to buy a house or future. As far as the right place ask people in your town who is the best jeweler - non retail.

Remember its not about the ring . Go shopping we went to an independent jeweler and bout a beautiful wedding set. Its usually cheaper to buy a set than to purchase separately I have a 1 1/3 total carat weight set and spent about 2500 the diamonds are all great quality and the center is 1/3 carat. Good Luck and congrats I'm sure you ll find something beautiful.

Kays has the best. My engagement ring was over three thousand but I wanted the best. You can shop around and find your taste. But a good amount to spend will be around 1,500.

The 3 month salary rule was made up by the diamond industry, so don't listen to that. You should spend what you are comfortable with depending on your salary and the amount of money you have saved, and don't break your bank doing it. As for where to go ask friends where they went and if they felt the store treated them right, that is your best bet.

Tiffany's. $35,000-$1.4 million is a fair price. haha

Actually most malls have nice jewelry stores where you can get nice rings anwhere from $150 to tens of thousands of dollars.

$2,000 is a good average price for an engagement ring, but it really depends on your budget.

Well, in my opinion I would say Jared.- www.jared.com or The Shane Company - www.shaneco.com both have quality merchandise at great prices. Shane co. has a virtual site so you can actually put your ring and stone together and see how it will look as well as the price. As far as that goes, they say, it should be worth 2 months pay. Best of luck. NEO!
