Senators have some very nice perks that are not available to the average citizen. Plus, they get to vote on their own salary raises. Tell me how this is fair to the rest of us.

Oh G-d don't get me started.

I say no pay for the job.

They all get millions of $$$ from lobbyist that should be enough. Don't let them get a penny from the Government let their boss pay them.

Yes, if we all band together and fill out petitions to have it brought up for vote, but, realise, the very officials whom you wish to lower their saleries are the ones who will keep it out of the house of representatives, so that there is never a vote on it. You will have to make sure that EVERYTHING you do towards this end is made extremely public, or no one will ever even hear of it. These crooks are very good at protecting themselves, and will change the laws to make it impossible to have their saleries lowered. I would back you in this venture, and hope you can get the ball rolling. It is unfair that so few people (Our government) should get paid so very much, while our wages keep getting smaller. The same thing has happened throughout history, where those who are supposed to lead become the very crooks that they are supposed to protect us from. The government is corrupt. Absolute power corrupts absolutely!

Actually, the most recent Amendment to the Constitution prohibits Congress from voting itself any pay increase unless it is delayed from taking effect until the next Congress is seated, so Senators (and Representatives) are unable to "vote on their own salary raises" as you wrongly suggest.

If you want elected officials who will do as you wish, vote for candidates who you believe will do so. It is up to you to make it an issue, if it matters to you.

It's not! It would be nice to be able to vote and give yourself a raise, huh? Too bad the same strategy doesn't apply to the average hardworking citizen. I think that the issue of pay raises is one issue that both sides ALWAYS agree on! You never hear of them declining a raise! It's ridiculous!!
