Theres no reason to be mean about it or hurt his feelings. If you like him as a friend just keep telling him he is a great "friend". sooner or later he will hear it enough times and realize that you only view him as a friend. If he tries to take it to a higher level, remind him that you dont want to ruin such a good friendship by crossing that line.

u gotta let him know if u don't you'll keep leading him on n hell think its OK for him to like u more n more in the end hell be f*** up in the game (the later u let him kn ow the more he'll get hurt)
or u could just do stuff so he wont like u or drop him hints to fall back

This seems to be a re-occurring question,I know it is hard when you are young but it is best to get started early,just be straight forward about your feelings use tact but people will come to appreciate your honesty,it is a bad practice to be wishy-washy
