With any quote, one has to realize it has to be taken in a context. You can snip words from ANY person, no matter how respectable or notorious, and come out with something completely different than the true intent. Dr Phil doesn't claim to be a savior; he claims to have ideas that can help. And most of his ideas do, especially those in reference to recognizing our problems, taking FULL responsibility, and not ignoring them or pushing blame onto others, like a little child. Lots of people prefer being victims, because it puts responsibility outside themselves. Being that there will always be these people, and this will never change, Dr Phil or any other therepist isn't and won't be talking to them. They aren't ready yet. Many people are scared of his ideas, and so attack him with whatever ammunition they perceive they have, like his fame and television popularity. If any of us had ideas we thought would help a lot of people we would be the first to jump at a television show because you can just reach more people that way. Are his therapies absolutely perfect without failure or need for improvement? Absolutely not, not a bit. Like any other human, he is growing and learning along the way, and improving himself and his ideas. If you expect his therapy and philsophy to be perfect before he gets on tv, then you need to stop watching tv alltogether, because nothing on tv is perfect. We need to ask ourselves if he has more experience than we do, than the people we are asking for advice like our families who are just as screwed up as us. Absolutely he does. Dont ask an amateur golfer how to learn pro tennis. Get it from the expert. Instead of whining and insulting him because he is a celebrity (of sorts) people need to extract the good from him and his messages and leave what they think they don't need. Problem is most aren't ready to listen at all because they would rather hide and let their problems continue. I do think that men are attracted visually, and women need more verbal effort with relationships. That isn't the be-all and end-all of course, as everyone knows, and Dr Phil NEVER said that it was. Good question though. I wasn't aware there were so many who hated Dr Phil, kind of surprising really.

Unfortunately, I do on some levels. Many men and women do love this way, and it makes them both superficial. It makes men shallow because looks are fleeting, and they will never be capable of having a withstanding relationship if they are constantly seeking what is asthetically pleasing to them. It makes women shallow, too, because men can easily say whatever a woman wants to hear. And as long as she is only seeking love through words, she will never be able to see beneath them to what the guy really feels. However, each sex is guilty of loving the other with the opposite appendage also. Men like to hear certain things just like women do, and women like for a man to be appealing to the eyes. There are ALWAYS exceptions to this kind of statement, for sure!! I am dating one of them! :) But overall, I would say that a lot of the time...this is sadly true.

Personally, I don't think that either have to do with love; Rather, they have to do with lust or enfatuation.
That said - Yes, men are stimulated more by visuals than women; However, women are typically more attracted to "perceptions" of character which incorporate more senses than just one so I wouldn't agree that "sweet nothings" are the skeleton key to a woman's desire. They may play a role in attraction but to think that it's a magic wand is naive.
This is why a man is more likely to be aroused by a photo of a beautiful naked woman, while a woman is more likely to be "turned on" by sexy literature that creates multiple artificial perceptions of sight (strong body), smell, touch, and romantic prowess.
I hope this is helpful :-)

No offense meant, but Dr. Phil is a commercialist.
I believe,,and no offense meant to my own gender, that we are only steps away from the caves, in our evolution.
No one LOVES with any less than experience, bonding, history, communal or shared interests and/or passions, etc.
WE may all LUST, and be attracted.
Men "LOVE" most often with lust, arousal, hope, and some levels of acceptance by the opposite gender, along with inisitence from the smaller head.
Women "LOVE" far more emotionally, passionately, realistically, often using both halves of their brain.
EYE CANDY certainly can't be discounted but I offer a quote from the woman I love, who shared it with me.
"You don't love a woman because she's beautiful -- She's beautiful because you love her"
I love you Aldara, on all levels, for all reasons, in all variances of body parts and emotions.

Disagree. Men and Women love with their hearts. Men are sexually attracted with their eyes, and then get in touch with their emotions through a sexual relationship. Women are sexually attracted to men with whom they share an emotional bond. Genuine love includes both physical and emotional but comes from above both of them, from the individuals as Soul. Genuine love is rare. If you find it, hold on to it.

I think Dr. Phil could say anything at this point, and have scores of people eating it up as truth. He's like a TV self-therapy televangelist.

It may be true for some people, but I think it's a bit superficial. Relationships based on looks and sweet nothings don't last very long, I think.
