When the media or Pentagon officials report that so-and-so Al Queda members were killed, captured, or whatever, in some recent event; what is the criteria they are using to to establish links to the acknowledged Al Queda organization? For instance, is there a card that AQ members are carrying or a tattoo they are wearing that identifies them as an AQ member? This is a refinement of a similar question I asked earlier.

They ask Cheney---he's got the "secret" list, and YOU may be on it!

I often wonder if they identify all foreign fighters in Iraq as Al Queda but then I also wonder if all of them are. I actually have come to trust a press release from the American military (because they are afraid of being skewed in the media) more than I trust news correspondent's report because I think of the two sources, the media is more likely to bend and shape a story to fit whatever they are doing at the time. We need to know more about the various terrorist groups and the media is a poor source. Too bad that Arab groups have lost their credibility in the U.S. by being afraid to speak freely against terrorism or Bin Laden, etc. A moderate Arab spokesman would be very effective for the Middle Eastern point of view...but there are none.

The members of Al Queda are usually positively identified either through captured people trying to strike a deal or spies/informants working with the government to bring them down. I know you were hoping for a secret handshake or something cool like that. Sorry buddy.

The REALLY stupid memebers go on Islamic Television networks and broadcast who they are. Usually this is done by head leaders so those that are in hiding know who is running the show.

Those who are captured usually identify themselves as Al Queda and will identify others in their groups.

There is a card they carry with half of "Al Qaeda" (in Arabic, of course) printed on it, and they have the other half tattooed on their left forearm. So when they put the card alongside the tattoo, their identity is revealed.

Enemies of the state are called Al Qaeda. You are now Al Qaeda for even questioning them.
