Are you sure it is a virus? Did your antivirus scan detect a virus and if "yes" what is the name? There is a possibility that you are dealing with spyware and/ or adware.
First, let's suppose it is indeed a virus. Start your antivirus software and update it then reboot your computer. During the boot process, select to go in to safe mode. This usually involves pressing and holding down the F8 key. Not all computers use the F8 key. Consult your computer owner's manual if F8 doesn't work. Safe mode only loads the Windows system files. Viruses can load during Windows startup, which is one way that viruses can "resurrect" themselves even after having remove them. Once in safe mode, run a virus scan and quarantine any suspicious files detected. Afterwards, reboot normally. Run another virus scan and see if the virus has been removed.
If the above steps do not solve your problem then there is a good possibility that you are dealing with something else besides an virus. Most likely, it is probably spyware or adware. For these form of malware, you will need to download and install anti-spyware programs. Download the free Spybot Search & Destroy and Lavasoft's Ad Aware at:
http://www.filehippo.com/software/antispyware
Once you have installed them, update them. Afterwards, run a scan using both programs and quarantine any detected suspicious files. Refer to CNET's security website for directions on how to use these two programs at:
http://www.download.com/Security-Spyware/2001-2023_4-0.html?tag=dir
Look under the "How To's" section.

What makes you so sure that you have a virus?
But, if you're sure you do, run your anti-virus scan in the Safe Mode (tap the F8 key on restarting your pc). That should take care of it.
What anti-virus software are you using? What makes you absolutely sure you have a virus, and not spyware or adware? What are the issues you are facing with your pc that convinces you that you have a virus?
Mail me with these details, and I'll try my best to come up with a solution.
All the best!

This takes several minutes to run, but it's an online tool that has really done the best job for me, better than other programs I have tried.

Make sure that your virus protection is updated , it can only get rid of the virus if it knows about it.
