Some at-home activities are: singing with baby, getting down on the floor and playing, playing peek-a-boo, etc.

If you dont want to be outside, then inside is your only option. Find something to do in the house with baby. Play with new things..like kitchen plastic spoons and pots and pans. Or...if there is a pool somewhere go take a dip in the pool. Or wait till afternoon when it cools off and play outside. You can set up a sprinkler and let baby play (and have an excuse to be a kid again)

Do you have a community center that offer swimming or baby gym classes? Other than that just doing gym type things at home is fine until your toddler can start walking and be more active. We have a YMCA here, there are learn to swim classes, gymboree, and even karate when they are old enough to walk. Best wishes =)

I live in the desert too. The best thing I ever did was enroll in Swim Gym. My son loved it. Was a nice cool, fun activity and I go to socialize with other likeminded parents.

How about a mommy/baby swim class? Or any kind of mommy and me class. Try checking with your local YMCA or community center for what they have to offer.
I'm sorry you're going stir crazy...I'm sure it's frustrating. Good luck to you.

Take a box or laundry basket and fill it with new things the baby hasn't played with yet. My daughter loves to play with baby juice bottles. Change the objects every day and make sure they're safe.

Practice peek-a-boo or read board books. Any books that have bright and colorful pages are wonderful at this age.
Also, toys that can be played with while sitting are great. Fisher Price peek-a-blocks, Fischer Price classical stacker, or any other sights and sounds toys.

Well, I am a dad and I would spend time reading to your 8-month old or singing or playing some classicial music to relax. It always worked for me.

you could collect containers, such as paper boxes, plastic cans and other stuff you usually throw away for recycling... you can put a little bit of dry beans or rice in the containers (just make sure they don´t "leak", babies like things that come indifferent sizes and shapes, and also make different sounds too...
