I don't know about your state specifically, but in many states it's a bit trickier for a man to change his name after marriage than for a woman to change hers. While a woman can usually change her name to her husband's name without court action, it often requires for a man to go through court to do the same (just a bit more paperwork and hassle). You will have to make sure you know what your state law is, try looking up on the state government website - at least, get some phone numbers you can call and find out (I'm sure someone out there knows the procedure).
This is cool that your fiance wants to take your name... Mine almost called off the engagement when I told him I was keeping my last name. lol (Thankfully, his parents talked some sense into him!)

When you get married make sure your new husband signs the marriage certificate with YOUR last name. That is considered a legal name change.

I'm fairly sure it would be the same as a woman changing her name. A birth certificate shouldn't be changed..when he was born, he had that name, so it should stay on the certificate.

I have heard of this happening, and it really is a cultural thing. Just make sure your family is all cool with it, as well as his. All in all it would just be a change in the paper work, birth cert would remain the same, just the social security , driver's license, and other documentation would change.

you go to the registry of births, deaths and marriage and fill out a legal name change document and he can change his name to "Mr Potatoe Head" if he wants to.

I think when people marry you can take either name or even a different name. That's cool, he must like your last name better!
