The Glow plugs are located in the cylinder head and are easily identified by a thick red cable which runs alon all four of them. changing them is easy simple ensure the ignition is off and disonect the battery, remove the wire i think its and 8mm nut, then unscrew the glow plug and remove i would take one as a pattern to your local motor factors (cheaper yet same prouduct than you get at your dealer) then simply fit the new ones in reverse of removal

pretty easy to do on the escort, your choice if you disconnect the battery or not as there is only power there when the ignition is switched on.
remove the small nuts from each glow plug either 7/8mm depending what make of plugs the you will need a selection of 12mm spanners to undo the glow plugs.
do not force them if very tight they will snap.
put a smear of copper grease on the threads of the new plugs before you fit them and dont go mad tightening them up.

Either you are pulling somebody's leg or you really don't need to be under the hood, unless your outside the US and have a diesel engine.
