As far as your age please don't feel bad. I received my associates when I was almost 50 years old. You are so fortunate that you have been able to stay at home with your children and I'm sure all of you have benefited from your special time together. I understand totally however, your need to reach out and do something for yourself and reaching for a higher education is an excellent choice!
My suggestion is MEDICAL, MEDICAL, AND MEDICAL!!!! You have so many choices such as nursing, phlebotomy, medical assisting (allows you to be multi-trained in clinical areas and administrative), emergency room techs, and x-ray technician.
The medical field also you so much flexibility as far as shifts and hours (40 hour weeks to per diem).
I am so excited for you as you begin another journey in your life. This is a journey that not only will you benefit from but your whole family. Good luck!

Opening a daycare is the easiest "decision" to make. However, please keep in mind all that comes with starting a daycare. If you want to actually make this a "business", you have to start thinking about insurance for your business to cover liabilities. Consider the building/housing codes. Consider the cost of food, toys, etc.

Keep in mind that your house will never be "nice" again. Children will wreck your house. It just happens. Things will get broken and insurance is very strict about what is covered or not. Therefore, there are plenty of broken things that you have to recover out of your own pocket.

Also, there's CPR, and medical classes to take to cover yourself from medical instances.

If this is the "initial" headache you are willing to take, then a home daycare could be your way. However, think long and hard, because that' exactly what you'll get. "Long" days which are going to be very "hard".

I'm not sure if you're asking for something you could do from home or not.......

I know alot of stay at home moms who have gotten on the substite teaching list in their school district. They can list their preference as to which schools and grade levels they would like. They get on a list and get called when they're needed, and it's nice for them cause they work when they want, as often as they want. Where I am they pay $70 a day which isn't bad for something that you dont' need any experience doing. Look into it at the board of education where you live.

If you live near a university or college, see if they will employ you as a secretary. Yeah, the actual job may be boring, but many universities have a tuition remission program for it's employees and their immediate family members. If you are a stay at home mom, that could mean free college for you and your kids when they get to that age.

What you could do is get your feet wet by taking some remedial courses. I was 36 when I went back to school and didn't know what the heck Algebra was,lol. But talk to a counselor at your local community college and see what pertains to your preference. Also,go to www.fastweb.com and fill out the short survey. This place has so many grants and scholarships,you won't beleive it. And they're free.

Do you have any skills? Hobbies? I worked as a stylist assistant in a hair salon for awhile and it was really fun. Doesn't require any skills, either, and you will learn a lot. Secretarial jobs are usually ok, too, if you are just looking to make a few bucks and get out of the house.
Good luck.....you have the toughest job of all!!

ok,
i am getting used to giving short answers. lol....
but you have asked, a very personal question to me...
sorry if its not short...lol

i am 40, been a stay at home mom, raised 7 kids.................... and i have worked every kind of job there is, i have even owned 2 different businesses...
i too, did not attend college, i had kids early...
NOW!! at 40!!...i have a job, a career i love., and I AM GOING to college!!!, i work at the school., i am not a teacher, nor do i want to be....right now i am an assistant, from preschool- 6th grade, my first choice is to be with our special needs kids, who have a one on one assistance....{cp, autism, ....}
everyday is different, everyday is a challenge, and everyday i get up, excited to go to work, and i am satisfied when i come home.

i never knew, that something i love, human behavior, was so....vital, understudied, and ...."brushed under the carpet"...in the early grades...
i am needed, so much, that they are helping me fund, MY schooling..{they are even helping me take A.C.T's...i took my SATS in high school, but my state requires the ACT's....} and boy let me tell you, testing at 40 is not the same as it was at 17, you do loose, higher math,...better at english, not as good at math....}

i get to be with my two youngest, until they move on......i won't go with them......
i will stay with early childhood developement, until i retire.

did you know??

80% of all ADHD children are mis-diagnosed?
20% of the children are early Bi-Polar disorder
the rest...are just angry.

What are you interested in? What are you good at? What are the chances of landing a job in your area and earning enough to make it pay off? If you want to go to school now, is there a decent school nearby offering this major? Is it affordable (as much as any school is affordable)?

Create your own home business... What are you good at? Let that influence your decision... Like, if you can take care of children well, find a way to open up your own childcare facility, PERHAPS out of your own house... Just let your likes, dislikes and talents influence what you choose to do...
