I know someone at my Church who has been blind from birth-
he says when he dreams he does see pictures ion his mind in the same way as when he meets folk he says he "sees them" but in a different way - by feeling people he can tell you what you are like - life he says is the same except that he cannot see.

People who have been blind from birth and have never seen perceive the world with their other senses. These experiences, touches, sounds, smells and tastes combine to form their view of the world. Their dreams are based on their views, so they are just as vivid as ours, they just don't include visual imagery. If you think about it, it would be hard to explain to someone blind from birth what vision even IS. Weird.

What makes you think they can't imagine pictures? They still have the parts of the brain responsible for processing sensory data, and must have some idea of what things look like. Surely when they touch an object, they imagine a 3 dimensional image of it, whether it be a pebble, a mobile phone or someone's face. It seems bizarre that most people just assume they don't have any imagination in pictures.

I agree with Rotifer. Just because someone is blind does not mean their imagination is impaired the only thing that could be difficult for them would be colours. Some people are known for seeing certain sounds and music as colours it is a condition called synaesthesia. It is just the way your brain interprets the data it receives.

Experiences can be obtained through all senses. Dreams are the mind's processing of past experiences. Only sighted people dream "images", but everyone can dream of other sensorial feelings. Hope it helps.
