If someone tells you that they graduated from The George Washington University with a Bachelor of Arts,
How can you confirm that they are telling the truth?

A background check of school records will reveal whether or not the person has officially graduated. If you don't want to go through the expense of this, you could ask for a copy of their official transcripts.

Another way is to visit the school's website and see if they have an alumni section. Many schools list the names of their graduates so they can keep in touch with each other and find out what fellow classmates are up to these days.

Ask the person to provide a certified transript. Most colleges will send a transcript directly to a third party if requested by the graduate.
