the only grand slam that guy's getting this year is breakfast at Denny's...
two eggs, two sausages, two slices of bacon and two pancakes. MMM!

Remember, most people said Sampras was washed up, and wouldn't win anymore titles, shortly before he won his last US Open.
Getting back to Agassi, while Common Sense is telling me to say he doesn't have a chance, I am going to have to go against my gut feeling on this one. Andre Agassi has an incredbile chance at winning the US Open if a number of things happen.
1) He is healthy.
2) He practices a lot between now and then.
3) Nadal, and Federer are upset before Agassi has to play one of them.
4) He goes out there and fights for each match with Passion, and doesn't give up.
I would also argue that at 35 years of age, Agassi is STILL the thrid best player on the Professional Tour. Outside of his back problems, he's in incredible shape, and has tremendous natural talent for the game.
While he isn't a safe bet to win the US Open, I would also say that it's never safe to bet AGAINST Agassi. Not too many people out there can return a serve as well. It also helps to have the hometown crowd behind him, which he will have at the US Open.. Finally, he DID Make it to the finals last year, and actually played Federer pretty well (for the first 3 sets anyway)..
Don't count Agassi out. Surely, he is NOT the favorite. But, I do put him in the top five players of the world, and he has proven himself as a difficult player to beat on hardcourts.
In summary, physcial strength and endurance are not factors for Agassi. The Guy is in amazing physcial shape. It's that doggone back problem.

That would be a long shot at best, we will just have to wait and see how his back holds up during the US Open Series events.
For him to win he would have to have a dream draw, he would need a few upsets along the way, like Federer and Nadal losing early. Which I really don't see happening, but if that were to happen, he very well could win, the man has so much heart and fighting spirit.
I say he makes a spirited run to the quarters.....it's a sad time, I will miss watching him play.

As romantic as the idea is, I really think Father Time has passed Agassi by.
But whether, he finishes with flourish or not, he will go down as one of the all-time greats. How many tennis players have won 3 Slams or more? How many have won all 4?
How many can claim to given the best players a real fight? And how many had as many beautiful chics as he did?
Kudos!

No, he's just getting too old. But wait 10 or so years and those Graff-Agassi Hybrid kids of his will be old enough to start popping up on the tennis circuit and they will probably kick major butt.

Unfortunately, the odds of that are astronomical...I think Agassi was one of the all-time greats, but the competition and the conditions (the WEATHER) make that a tall order at best...Still, I'd LOVE to see him do it.

I would sure love to see it. You know the fans will be behind him all the way and really, if anybody can pull this off, it would be Andre. He's on his best surface so I'm not wagering that he won't do it. What a waaaaay to go out!
