I've heard of there being transmission failure in the manual 5 speed transmission 2003 Mini's, but nothing else significant.
"An occasional problem on this vehicle is failure of the 5-speed Manual Transmission, standard Mini Cooper only. Does not apply to the 6-speed Manual Transmission on the Mini Cooper S or to the Automatic Transmission. The cost to repair the 5-speed Manual Transmission is estimated at $1785 for parts and $650 for labor. All prices are estimates based on $65 per flat-rate hour and do not include diagnostic time or any applicable sales tax."
It could have other problems though from lack of maintenance. The only way to know is to have it inspected.

DO NOT TRUST CARFAX!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have seen many damaged vehicles make it past a "carfax" Take it to your local BMW dealer. If there is not one available go to a shop specializing in European cars. You can check the value on NADA.com. There may not be anything wrong with the vehicle. Some people have more dollars than sense. I purchased a 2004 BMW M 3 for 10,000 because the guys wife did not like a stick. And the comment on the transmission problems there is updated software for the transmission control module. This service is free at your local BMW dealer. Have it checked out and use your best judgment. Good LUCK...

My husband has a 2007 Mini Cooper S. It drives splendidly yet has NO area interior the decrease back. when we positioned the motor vehicle seat interior the decrease back it truly is a touch cramped. there is not any longer a lot room for my son's ft. i imagine it truly is an fantastically relaxing motor vehicle yet no longer fairly a relations motor vehicle. Plus, i'm no longer confident the way it might want to postpone in an twist of destiny with a SUV or more effective motor vehicle.

First of all talk to the owner and see if he/she will tell you anything if they claim that they are out of country they are a scam and you should just walk away. If they are local though get a car fax report to find out if the car has a salvage title. I suggest you be careful about buying this car not just from this guy but from anyone! some people love their minis some people just want to drive them off a cliff! apparently they have had transmission problems, software problems, and just over all quality problems!

$5000 is way too cheap for that car...either it has stupidly high mileage, a major mechanical problem, or is a salvage title vehicle that's been in a wreck, flood, etc.
IF you are considering this seriously, have it checked by a reputable mechanic first, and as a previous answerer said, get the carfax report on it...this will let you know the vehicle's history.
Hope this helped.

Good price. Shouldn't have any problems. Mine is a 2002 model. It costs 3 times more than that. But I just love it too much, no cars will I exchange for this.
Is this a stolen car?

Way too cheap. I have an '03 5-speed and Kelly Blue Book says it will sell for as much as I paid for it - $19,000.

Check that specific vehicle at carfax.com and you'll get the entire record for it.

there aren't any problems that i know of, but beware, the car might be a lemon, or it might be a car that was flooded in katrina.
