Anyone Know anything about chinchillas?

I am going to be getting a chinchillia, and all i know is that my dad won't be alergic because they don't have dander.

Chinchillas are nocturnal, which means they spend most of the day sleeping or napping. If there is something interesting going on they will be more active during the day however. Because they sleep during the day they need to be protected from a lot of noise and disturbances during this time. The best time to play with your Chin is in the evening. They will sometimes be ready to play with you in the late afternoon. Intelligent and mischievous. Chinchillas are very social and need affection and gentling. When you first acquire your chin, it will tend to be shy and run, so you will need to spend some quality time with it.For the most part they do not care to be handled or petted, however when you gain their trust, they will hop up on your hand for a scratch behind the ear. Chinchillas like to chew. It is a natural instinct that you will not be able to curve. Chewing is necessary to keep their teeth filed down. Since Chinchillas spend most of the day in their cages it is important Chinchillas like consistency and do not like changes and being moved around. Chins have long memories, if they are frighten, they will remember it and will reject whoever frightened them until their trust is regained. Chins can be trained to some extent by consistently rewarding good behavior with a treat. They will continue the behavior expecting the treat. Do not raise your voice to or frighten the chinchilla unless it is for a wrong or dangerous behavior, like chewing electrical wires. Chinchillas will bite if they feel threatened.Chinchillas are sensitive to stress and noise, so approach them in a quiet way, handle gently and provide them with active stimulation THEY NEED WIRE CAGING< NO COATED OR PAINTED EITHER lol, sooo, bored and it took a long time to write ...phew

They can live to be 15-20 years, about as smart as a squirrel. With gentleness they learn to trust you and crawl all over you. They love raisins, but don't feed them too much or they'll get chubby :) They require and will take a 'dust bath' by themselves about once a week, supplies for this are available at Petsmart or other stores. They need to be housed in an all metal cage, because they are strong chewers and will chew their way out of a plastic cage. They need a big cage with multiple levels, and appreciate exercise out of their cage daily.

Well they cant sweat so if exposed to extreme heat they just die.

Chinchillas are very cute, I know they take dust bathes and are very very soft, and live a long time. Thats about all I know about them though.

They are way cool! They're almost like a hedge hog, they roll around in this powder stuff to take a bath. Good Luck!!!

They wash themselves in dust and are very clean animals.
You cannot tell in advance but I think that you are pretty safe.
They are very cute and soft as well.
