Americans when they are being invaded, nobody when all is well there.

Neither get along with france too well, but Britain probably has better ties than the USA. Politically speaking, France and America had a "falling out" after 2003 Iraq invasion. President Chirac met with ex-prime minister Gerhardt Schroeder of Germany to form a treaty that assured mutual non-involvement in the war. This didn't sit well with washington. France also said it would veto any bill that was proposed to the United Nations that led to millitary action against Iraq. Again, this didn't sit well with the American government.

Socially speaking, Frech people and American people do not get along. Of course there are exceptions (you can't generalize 2 entire populations). But the American and French cultures are very different, and they don't mix well.

Personally I believe that the "French are rude" thing is a little overblown. I'm an American and went to Paris for a visit about six months ago and was treated with nothing but kindness even with my poor broken French skills.

As an Englishman I can honestly say that most French People would like my Island Nation to float away.

However I can't really blame them as we've burnt their country to the ground so many times we've lost count.

Also many Brits remember the french surrender in WWII, but they conveniently forget that we sent a much smaller force to help defend France then we were supposed to.

On a one to one basis though they may prefer the slightly more refrained conversation of an Englishman to that of a "stereotypical" American.

The only thing that the French get along with is the image they have about themselves.

I don't think the French (in a very stereotypical, over-generalizing sense of the term) get along very well with anyone.

No one, not even themselves.

I liked what Mike Royko said about them.
