I think you should have asked, "Why are some people so cruel" ... people, in general, are not all cruel and would not have behaved in such a pathetic manner.

Some people are cruel because they have no self-esteem, no morals or ethics, a bad example set by parents and/or peers, no respect for themselves or others, they are ignorant, obnoxious, and self-centered .... others are just having a bad day and take it out on an easy target. These people sound ignorant ... they fear what they don't understand, so they make fun of it to try to make their fear go away. It's lame, but common.

I cannot give you a simple answer to that, but I can tell you a story that may brighten your day. I had a friend who was crippled from birth and had to use two crutches to walk. He was a really cool guy and never let his handicap get in his way. One day a bunch of us were hanging out and we saw a crippled girl walking down the street with great effort. One dumbass yelled out, "Hey Crip!" When my friend heard that, he pounced on the guy and rammed the tip of his crutch into this guys throat and said, "Wanna say that again?" The guy turned white as a sheet and stammered saying how sorry he was. It was the coolest thing I ever saw!

Because they haven't "got it" yet... Mocking physical differences is a way of connecting a group together and making the group stronger. Problem is this team building is based on destruction.

It isn't just some people - everybody has a bit of this going on - economics of competition pits us against each other in the race for resource of any form. You could say it is human nature to be a dick.

People make fun of others to make themselves feel important. And for some reason they find other people's handicaps, looks, actions hilarious. It's sort of demonic. They just laugh without regard. It is not right. Cruelty comes from a bitter past or present and future.

Some people feel bad about themselves & want everyone else to feel bad too. It's called bringing someone down to their level. By doing this, it supposedly makes them feel better about themselves to make fun of someone else. Supposedly it makes them feel superior to the other person. And Doctor Groovy is right, what goes around comes around. Someday they will have to answer for what they do & say to others.

I think so many people have their own problems, maybe making fun of others is just an insecurity for them... something that they think will help gain self-confidence or whatever they are trying to achieve. I wish this didn't happen, though. Nobody deserves to be made fun of!

I think some people have fear of differences and feel superior by making fun of them. It's not nice and not right, but unfortunately there are a lot of immature and ignorant people still out there in this day and age.

How sad...maybe one day they'll be in that position and think back to how they treated that person...I guess its all how we are raised...i see this everyday..my dad is in a nursing home and probably 90% of the people who work there absolutely do not care about these people...I always think to myself...well maybe one day one of there loved ones will be in need of help and they will understand..tho I doubt it..We just have to be the better people and love one another...maybe it can make up for the IDIOTS in this world !! God Bless !

Their parents never taught them to be kind. I hear so many parents teach their kids to get the other person before they get them. I was taught and always taught my kids to be kind and follow the golden rule. I know people that didn't teach their children to be kind. They are the the ones who can't believe how mean people are. And once again, it comes down to a "me" society. I can do whatever I want to do. I don't have to answer to anyone.

Because they think it makes them cool! They feel like real men (or women for that matter)! Pretty sad when it makes you feel better about yourself by talking trash on someone else. I believe in an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. Someone will get them.
