I would use the place as mainy as a place to get away from the U.K for a few months a year...so need somewhere which is a relatively stable country and with possible good rental income the rest of the year...but not so important...mainly after good location..with natural beauty and is quiet..with locals nearby.

We have a place in Spain and the Costa Almeria is a good bet right now it is an up and coming place unspoilt and well worth a look.prices are fairly reasonable and there are regular flights from the UK ,you only have to go 2-3 hours for sunshine and you are guaranteed 300 days a year how good is that.The times you dont use the property you could rent it out and earn yourself a bit extra cash then you start your own property empire and retire early sounds great I am 42 and retired I recommend it to all

How about the Black sea?
Saw a TV prog the other day, property is cheap in Bulgaria (i think it was there) so for 50k you should get one hell of a house - just be careful they don't massively inflate the price just because you're foreign.
Also I think the purchasing laws are a bit different, requiring you to hold a bank account over there and, possibly, register a company - but I may be wrong on the company bit - so look into such things beforehand.

the Med is an hour away. The village is un-spoiled and quiet - ideal for what you want it would seem.

Thailand....if you don't mind flying. Somewhere like Hua Hin , houses would be cheaper, but better location would be a bit more south like Krabi or Phuket!
