If you are having lunch maybe talk about the old times you spent together and she what her reactions are. The other thing you need to look at is WHY is she your EX. Some time individuals are too young when they first meet and when they meet later on in life they both have matured and the problems of the first time are not there. I do not know your exact situation but I hope at least the lunch goes well for both of you and you both have a good time.

Women are attracted to confidence and strength. Not insecurity and fear. 90% of all communication is non-verbal. So, your demeanor is much more important than your words. It's not enough for you to want her back. She needs to want you back. That requires that you be attractive to her... more attractive than the man you were when you split.
Confidence and strength. Don't show you're needy, or your life is empty without her. Show her how strong you are. How well you can handle life on your own. How well everything is going for you. At some point, let her know that the only thing missing is that you don't have anyone to share all your successes with... then wait for her to respond. You MUST let her ask to be a part of your life again. It cannot be the reverse and work.
Let her want you. Don't expect her to respond to you wanting her. Her desire for you has to come first. To arouse that, be a man. Be strong. Be confident. Be successful.

It's not bad to be emotional but too emotional might scare off a girl. I for one don't like guys that are soo mushy. I like a manly sort of man but not a*shole type just secure and confident.
If you want to tell her, then just tell her. There's no reason why you shouldn't unless you know for a fact that she doesn't feel the same way anymore. If she initiated the breakup then most likely she will stick to it. Just be prepared for the worse. And please don't cry...

I would start off by telling her that you are not really good with words,thoughts,etc... If being around her makes you emotional, you have got it for her bad. If she has any brains, she will see that. Good luck and you will feel much better after you let it all out.

Don't tell her, you have to be smooth. Don't have anything to drink but water, soda will make you nervous and fidgety and alcohol will make you drunk. Keep your conversation to a minimum. Basic things like weather and current events. Maybe mutual friends. Don't bring up the past between you two. She'll be weirded out and feel uncomfortable. You have to pretend there never was a past. Clean slate, like it's your first date ever.
