When the U.S. goes to war, we always take it to them, you see on the news clips of bombs exploding, and mortars hitting in these foreign cities, but is it possible for a near-future enemy to take a war to our streets? I noticed it hasn't really happened yet in our modern times, so is there a way we prevent this, or does it simply not happen.

No. For there to be war in continental US, there has to be someone capable of projecting the necessary force to overcome our defenses and then land and wage war. No country is capable of doing that.

The only way to attack us, then, is through terrorism (covert warfare) or missile attack.

Missile attack has the drawback that we can detect the exact time and location of any missile launch, and have the strategic capability to render the offending country into a smoking radioactive hole. That's why it is called a nuclear deterrent.

So that leaves covert warfare - terrorism. And it is a pretty safe bet that despite all our efforts, the terrorists (with thanks to the CIA traitors who revealed our programs and the NYT et al. who chose to publish it) will evade our people and successfully attack us. They only have to succeed once, we have to succeed every time - averages being what they are... *ka-boomie*!

But that's about it. No general war in the streets.

Yes, it is possible.
No, it is not likely, anytime soon.

The Chinese, as I've been told from people who have been in Asia, say the Chinese speak of someday making "the long march", which is said to be some sort of ultimate destiny that they will one day have to directly attack the United States. The North Koreans, as I've also heard from people who have been there, are assuming that they will start the fight with their mortal enemy, the United States, and their closest communist friends, China, hopefully Russia and maybe even Cuba and communists elsewhere in the Americas, will join the fight.

It has long been reported that Russia still has sleeper cells of soldiers trained in disruptive sabotage tactics, as in maybe some night all of the TV and radio station broadcast towers fall, or FAA navigation beacons and radio relay or radar towers be destroyed, and various critical bridges for truck and train traffic, perhaps isolated pumping stations for water, sewage, and, most importantly, petroleum products. These are not terrorist attacks, but surgical strategic attacks to hamstring the nation during or just before a major attack.

Some feel that the massive immigration of people from Arabic or Islamic nations has been a strategic staging process, first for evangelizing America to become Islamic too, or, failing that, to have a base, ala Hamas and Hisbollah, in the Americas should something require a direct attack. While some are here as refugees, such as Iranians that were loyal to the Shah, or Iraqis that were threatened or oppressed by Saddam (surely not, nice guy that he was), and some are Saudi or UAE secularists who want to do business without the religious oppression back home. Either way, both Saddam and both current and past Iranian leadership have publicly bragged about sleeper cells planted in the US--of course, it is hard to tell home-audience political lies and propaganda from honest brag.

Possible? Yes. Likely or likely soon? No. The coalition of powers that can attack us can happen, but is too far from reality at this time or the very immediate future. Still, terrorist or harrassing actions may be possible quite soon, but that is not even close to the scenes of open conflict by warring armies.

Have you ever been to downtown Detroit or certain parts of most major cities ? Some already look bombed-out. There's more violence on American streets than in some war areas.

It's not only possible but I think it's inevitable. Once the muslims realize they can drop nuclear weapons on Iraq and wipe out most of the American armed forces, there will not be enough of an army left to keep down civil uprisings in America and it will be complete anarchy... all because of the ignorance of Bush and the drooling born agains who give him the orders to attack the whole world for GEEZUS.!

For there to be war in our cities, the enemy would need to have heavy weaponry in our cities. This is a major stumbling block. Terrorism seems much easier, when you look at what happened and what was used in Oklahoma City and NYC.

Please tell me that you were sleeping in 1993, 1996, 2001. While there where no soldiers climbing throught the streets to fight that action was an act of war, so is every other attack brought onto American soil. We have terrorist living and ploting and attacking us each day. Jsut cause they are small attacks does not mean that it is not an act of war.
