I have heard of women being pregnant and not realising that they were pregnant because they were still having periods. Have any of you had this happen to you or know of anyone who had? I would be interested in hearing your stories x

Yeah! That happened to a friend of mine on college! She had always had irregular periods (every 2 or 3 months) and both of her brothers gained a little weight when they went off to college. Coincidentally, she happened to be one of those people that didn't really show. I was sitting at her apartment one day when she said she kept feeling this weird feeling in her stomach. She started talking about some "weird" things that had been going on that she couldn't explain. I jokingly asked if she was pregnant. She kind of got a dumbfounded look on her face and we wound up skipping class to go get a pregnancy test. It was positive so she called her doctor. Turns out she was actually 7 months pregnant and had no clue. Don't ask me how this is possible, I still wonder if she wasn't in a little bit of denial, but 2 months later she delivered a baby girl!

Heard of it, but don't know anybody personally who went through that. I've heard stories where the women didn't know at all that they were pregnant, and they just gave birth. Having gone through pregnancy and now have a 10 week old baby, I find it extremely difficult to believe that (as it seems to me) some women are obviously out of touch with their bodies. I mean, there are so many symptoms and/ or signs of pregnancy, no period, sickness, weight gain, lightheadedness, growth of the tummy, swelling, appetite change, possible stretchmarks etc that I simply cannot believe some woman don't know they are expecting till the baby pops out. Ok, I understand that some women carry on bleeding, but can they not see that their body is changing? There has got to be something they could notice. They must be in denial or trapping their partners/ boyfriends.

i don't know anybody who has had that but i've read magazine articles of girls in labour and not knowing that they were pregnant.
It's apperantly denial - they knew right at the beginning but thought"this can't be happening to me" and then they kin of block it from their minds.
Some women who are pregnant and not in denial can still get their periods for a five months or so into the pregnancy.

My mother, when she was pregnant with me, continued to have normal monthly bleeding. When she was about 6 months, and I started moving where she could feel it, she went to the hospital. She thought she had the flu or even a tumor. The ER doc told her she was preggers and she didn't believe it. They said basically, believe it or not, see you in about 3 months for delivery. Sure enough, 3 months later, here I come.

It happened to my friend up until her fifth month. She still was on the pill, so she kept getting light periods. Thankfully her daughter is fine.
