Check out Itronix ( http://www.itronix.com/ ), it's high end expensive stuff that is usually used by the Military and other organizations with a lot of money to spend on stuff like this but it is worth it. I have worked with their equipment in the past and you can't break the stuff. For example, their laptop computers are designed to be thrown out of planes and still work (for parachuters).

Absolutely! Depending on how much money u r willing to spend, you can find portable equipment. My favorite so far is a portable DSL satellite modem (looks like a laptop) that allows you to connect from anywhere in the world. It is not that expensive to buy or subscribe but it can get a little expensive as per usage. The technology is mostly for businesses but it is starting to become mainstream and therefore we can expect lower prices soooon!

Forget it. Satellite download time is akin to dial up.
There are loads of small companies, that have large dishes, basicaly relaying to a gound piped isp. Its like cell phones, you only go to the nearest mast, then its underground on bt's lines!
So no isp has satelite, directly, for consumers. You beam to a satilite via expensive equipment, it hits the satelite, goes back down to an independantly operated lagre dish, they connect to an isp, They get your "answer" beam it back up, back down to you. All at £150 per month for dial up speed. Companies pay for it because for written data (slower speeds ok) between just two comuters, it is incredibly secure. And portable. Sky do one, you need a phone! crazy but true. They beam to you, you have to beam up via isp on your cell phone, cuts out 50% of cell phone data usage, more, as request is often less than information recieved, via satellite. No satellite upload possible.

Of course you can. But you will need an ISP near your area who will provide you with the service. The ISP will provide you with the equipment and everything. But its gonna cost you a lot. Not that lot, but a lot more than cable or DSL.
