Barry Sanders Hands Down.
He could have shattered the All-Time rushing record had he been willing to continue playing football.
He wasn't injured, he just didn't want to play anymore.
He had 5 or 6 more years left at over 1000 yards a season, he'd destroy Emmitt Smith current record had he WANTED to play.
And lets not forget he played for the LIONS, they were sorry, had no Offensive line and he still produced.

It's not fair to call someone the best football player of all times because I don't think one exsists. Every position is different and requires different types of skills to play each difficult position. While I believe that Montana was a great quarterback, he wouldn't have made it as a receiver, blocker, or running back. Just as I don't believe someone like Payton or Sanders, while they were great running backs, it's hard to imagine that they would have stood out at any other position.

Football isn't like other sports like Basketball, and Baseball where you can say who's the best because in Football it truly is a team game. You can't say that the best RB of all time is better than the best QB of all time. So I'll give you my all time team.
QB-Joe Montana
RB-Walter Payton
RB-Jim Brown
WR-Jerry Rice
WR-Chris Carter
TE- Tony Gonzalez
OT-Anthony Munoz
OT-Erik Williams
OG-Gene Upshaw
OG-John Hannah
C - Mike Webster

Jerry Rice. Not even close. He destroyed the record books and is responsible for the large number of big receivers in the game today. He is so far ahead of the competition it is ridiculous, was a dependable receiver at quite an advance age, and was the best conditioned player on the field at all times.

I think it has got to be Walter Payton. He has great career numbers, maybe not the best of all time but anybody that has ever seen him play knows how special he was. He was also one of the classiest athletes that ever lived/ He led his team to a Super Bowl championship and held the career rushing record for a while till Emmitt Smith broke it by playing many seasons past his prime to pad his stats.
