She is British, he is American, and I am not that familiar with the British laws, however, when I read this article about them I was intrigued. This sounded morally wrong, however, her (divorced)mother was encouraging it, going against the wishes and interests of the father and rest of the family. (She has joint custody with the father) From what I heard she was just letting her daughter date this man (did I mention he was charged with murder once; convited of manslaughter) just to spite the paternal family.

I personally don't really know how to answer this. Whenever I was 16 I was dating a 23 year old, and when I turned 17, I started dating a 22 year old. Some people had a problem with it, some didn't. At 16, you can be quite mature, but some people are still rather naive. So in honesty, I think it depends a lot on how wise the 16 year old is, even if some people do see it as wrong.

It may not seem that way if you are the 16 year old but there really is something wrong with it. There is an 8 year difference between the two, and though it may not seem that bad, it is. 8 years is alot of experience, way more than the 16 year old has. And to say that the mother is letting this happen. Is she messed up in the head?

Yes that is wrong 16 yr olds aren't as mature as they think they are...older guys look for different things out of a relatioship than younger ones do, so it is safe to say he will be expecting things from her. The fact that he was charged w/ murder doesn't exactly put her in a safe place. Her mother should try and explain these thing to her. I know that she is a teenager and they don't want their parents telling them who they can and can't see but that is why explaining thing will make things a little easier.

Young girls who date men that much older than them usually have something wrong in there lives such as divorced parents. Things like that confuse children and make them do things that they normally wouldn't do. Seems to me like this girl is trying to seek attention from someone...the mother..the father? It's not all right for a 16 year old to date a 24 year old. You can get each other in a lot of trouble. Him legally. She might get pregnant. He most likely will not be there for her if that does happen. I'd get out of that relationship.

Ok.If the man was a nice man.I would say no issue. But if the mother is allowing her daughter into the arms of this seemingly dangerous man,I would tend to think the mother just does not love her daughter.

i don't know about the specific situation you are referring to, however, i do have a serious problem with that age gap.
it's not so much just an 8 year age difference, but it's an 8 year maturity level difference.

there isn't much difference between a 30 year old and a 38 year old, HOWEVER, a 16 and 24 year old....
man, what could they possibly have in common??? sounds to me like predator got his prey.

i hope that girl take care and ends up safe and in a caring life.

Well in America, she needs to be 17 for it be legal, otherwise they're breaking the law. Also they need to look beyond the age diffrence because if this man has a record, the mom needs to not encourage her to date him but encourage her to get away from him!

Here's the problem aside from the fact that it is illegal. At 24 his expectations of how fast and far the relationship goes will be way ahead of hers. She should either wait till she is much older or stick to her age group to keep from getting in over her head.

yes it is very wrong that is an adult and a child and charges should be pursued..also the 24yr old sounds like a potential child molester to me and i would involve the law as soon as possible, under 18 is a child no matter how mature they look or act and it is sick if this continues to go on and someone who has the power to stop it and doesn't is just as sick as the 24yr old pedifile/child molester
