It is interesting that you should compare the devil to the 'bogey man.' You see, this how we humans so often err. We see the devil as just a man. The devil is not a man, bogey or otherwise.

He is a creature of pure energy with intelligence and free will, endowed with powers far greater than our own, and he has been around since before time began. That is what makes him so dangerous. Someone else answered that he would prefer that we not believe in his existence. That is probably true.

But your question is, "What if he doesn't exist?" Perhaps our first parents would not have fallen from grace and we would still be living in Paradise. Or perhaps Adam and Eve still would have disobeyed God and we would be our own 'devil.'

The concepts of faith and belief are somewhat based on our imaginations, so if you choose to believe in something, it will affect your choices and behaviors. Likewise, if you choose not to believe, it would affect you as well. Neither, however, affects what is reality.
For example, I am always late, so my mother often lies to me and says that family gatherings start 1/2 hour to an hour earlier than they really start. In turn, I plan based on the belief that something is starting at 5 when it really starts at 6,and I'll show up at 5:30. This doesn't change the reality that the dinner started at 6 though. Unfortunately, I won't know that until it's too late.

The Devil was never a single person. As represented in folklore, he does not exist, certainly not in any singular way. The devil exists in deed not in a single being.

The devil "Satan" does definitely exist and would like nothing better than for people to not believe in him so he can go on doing his work of destroying all souls.

The "Devil" as you refer to him is simply a figure associated with damnation. What makes him or the "Boogey Man" real is your level of belief in him. It comes down to personal orientation toward such elements of the supernatural. Do you believe there is a "Devil" if so, then there is.

What if indeed! What if God and the Devil and Religion all together...are just another form of brainwashing??? You are a smart girl to question all of the nonsense...People are so hell bent trying to prove that their way is the only way...Someone has to be wrong...Right?

I don't knwo what would happen. People would think they have no worries about things they do. They won't end up in hell, they would all go to heaven. Personally, I believe there is a devil, and there is a hell. Otherwise, I'd have to meet up with those awful people who rape and murder others. *shudder*

That would be great if that was true. but with so much good in the world there has always been a side of evil... so it seem like there got to be some one who embodies this great evil in the world. like there it some one who repentance good God.
