I think today's youth wants things handed to them. They don't want to work for it.

I am the up and coming youth, at fifteen years old, and I think that, while there are more thugs around than there used to be, the majority of children are still decent.

Maybe it's because I live in a very middle class and affluent area, but most of the kids I know at school are decent people. It has to be said that even here we do have some problems though.

I don't think the future is going to be dull by any stretch of the imagination; I'm not too sure whether it'll be that bright though.

Anyway, if it is it won't be our fault. If anything at all in the mail is to be believed, schools now aren't as good as they once were; well that would sound like a cause to me, and a cause which isn't our fault. If education and discipline at schools aren't that good, it's no wonder so many children are suddenly turning to drugs and violence.

So in conclusion, blame the government for the sudden uprising of hoddies; I wouldn't recommend hugging them though.

I have no faith in the up and coming youth of today. In order for the future to be bright a lot of things will have to change. All you have to do is look around you (or read the news, etc) and there's another case of youngsters doing horrible things to each other. Since when did youths start killing each other without a second thought?? I know that youth violence has always been around but the extent we're seeing today is unreal. It's like, "So and so looked at me wrong..I'm going to stab him". Oh and don't get me started on the violence we're now seeing amongst girls! That's just scary.

Teens today (not all of course) are spoiled, selfish, lazy louts who have mostly been raised by the tv nanny. They don't fear or respect authority (parents, teachers, police, etc) and don't think about the consequences of their actions. Drug use and teen pregnancy are on the rise and it's the tax payer that gets to foot the bill when they end up on benefits.

I would just love for the day to come when I can take an evening walk and not feel some fear when I see a mob of youths hanging out at a bus stop. Whether you admit it or not the thought at the back of your mind is, "What are they going to do? Mug me?". This thought is especially strong when you notice that they all have cans in their hands.

Sounds like I have nothing but bad to say and yes I do realize there are a lot of great kids out there. It's just a shame that they're accomplishments rarely make the news.

With heavy heart I think we are allowing the youth of now to destroy themselves. There are always good and bad in all society, and has been through history. The problem is we have seen respect and discipline disappear from our society. Political correctness and a failure by this New Labour government has exacerbated a problem. schools no longer have the ability to teach, police to arrest as it may harm someones Human Rights. The moral standards set by some government ministers and pop stars give little moral lead to our youth. If someone ( not Dave the hoodie) will not stand up above the parapet and declare war on youth anarchy will be on the cards a few years down the line.

I watched a Charlie Chaplin film last night - hah! I couldn' t see much difference - there was even a guy injecting himself with drugs in one clip.
I have four kids, and they're all wonderful. Generally well behaved, polite and good. Two of them are dyslexic - can't spell but they inherited that from my father - and the other two are bright enough. No drugs, no drink ... yet!
So there will always be kids who need to grow up. If they survive the teens with its drink/sex/drugs problems. So yes, I have confidence that most people will come right.

THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT. I have an older son with a drug addiction. He's 26. Ok - his may or may not be bright. But I also have a son going on 18 -- he's going to the Coast Guard after graduation. He and all of his friends (a lot of them too- they all come over) are extremely intelligent individuals!! I have total faith in them. I have a granddaughter and a grandson on the way and if I knew THIS particular group of kids were going to run this country, I would go to my grave feeling secure/happy for my grandchildren's future. Please don't base you opinions on a small group of kids who haven't found their way yet.

As a mmember of the old brigade, I can definitely say that despite the fact the the youths of today are not as committed to the ideals of society, they are much more exposed to the technology of today and makes the world go around.

By their knowledge, I am sure they can be relied upon to make the world a better place

I hate to say it but I feel some of the youth of today DON'T GIVE A CRAP about anything!! Especially the following: respect, Pride in their country and manners!!

I weep for the future with this younger generation!! I pray they will one day soon GROW UP!!

The world is about the same as it has always been... the top 25% or so are going to be ok, the rest are not. There are plenty of decent, polite, hardworking people out there. But there are also a lot of spoiled, lazy, incompetent, impolite brats--as shown by the internet. But we should be OK.

The youth today have no motivation to do ANYTHING. I think the future is dim. Further, with education on the decline, there's no telling how the country will continue to operate successfully.
