It works just like a regular pot you put on a stove except the material that the 'pot' is made from is nonstick.

You make rice in a pot by putting in rice and water 1" over the rice(yes, I know it is not exact as pots have different circumferences, but it works, after all you're making rice) You bring the water to a boil, let it boil for 10 minutes, and the let it steam without heat for 20 minutes. You finally let it sit for another 5 minutes, and whalah you have steamed rice.

The electric rice cooker just takes care of all of these steps for you automatically, so that you have the rice cooked the same each and every time. Wonderful invention for something as minute as rice.

First they heat the pot up to temperature.
Once the temperature is reached, a timer starts.
When the timer ends the heat is then taken down to a setting to keep the rice warm.

Have fun. Eat rice.
Peace
