I think to "replace" them is largely impossible in a practical and emotional sense. To create an icon, a memorial, a way to say The "H" with you guys,,,We're gettin on with IT" is something we need to do in our healing process. I lost two family members in tower 1 that day, but I still live, and voice my opinions,,,though they may be moot points.
I think just the idea or recreating something of an icon is a valid expression, but I temper my thoughts in the belief that "LIGHTNING" can very often STRIKE twice, in the same spot.
They were more than just office buildings. They were symbols of power on soooooo many levels, and we were brought to our knees, when that power was disrupted. Does that mean we are weak now,,, Certainly not,,, in fact, on a moral level, it strengthened us. On a political level, it may not ever be created again with true respect, but something will rise from the ashes,,, THE PHOENIX will soar again.

It would not ought to do with worry of yet another attack. even as i replaced right into a baby and it first got here about i wanted them to rebuild them as they were. yet i have theory more suitable about it, and that i do not imagine it will be proper. the dual towers were designed interior the early 1960's with a tube-body structural equipment by skill of Minoru Yamasaki. They were outfitted with the supplies, technologies and layout of that aspect period. surely they were a significant leap ahead in skyscraper layout. the recent towers are being outfitted now, and may reflect all the advances we've made in construction layout considering then. we've new techniques, supplies and priorities, and that progression must have some impact on the project. i'm not easily a huge fan of the present plan for floor 0, yet a minimum of New Yorkers are regaining some use of the area. I favor they could a minimum of do one flow as bold because the Vietnam memorial. i recognize they can't have the completed website be a memorial, yet i'm not pleased with the present plans.

Yes US must rebuild in the place where WTC was present. The place can still be made as a memorial area. Most improtant of all the absense of the twin towers will always remind USA citizens the pain of the lose of lives and lose hope.
But the new building the FREEDOM TOWERS will definitly induce hope in to every person regardless of whether they are a USA citizen or not. Most important charcater needed to stop terrorism is the willingness to show that you are going to face them face to face.

I live only 25 miles from lower Manhattan. I still miss the sight of the WTC as I drive over the last ridge of the Watchung Mountains.
Should we rebuild them to look the same? Probably not. I like the 1776 foot tower that will replace them. I just wish that the various "family" factions could understand that there are more than one way to honor the victims.

It's hard to say- I personally think that they should build something sufficiently tall as a memorial, so that the new buildings in some way fill in the space (at least partially) left by the Twin Towers, but nothing so tall that it comes across as pretentious and inappropriate for the remembrance of all of those who lost their lives on September 11th. I think that's what they're kind of planning to do, although I don't think the plans are final yet. I guess we'll all just see.

that would be the American thing to do but for this particular incident, I think that simply rebuilding into something different would be more appropriate. it's a sign of change. to simply rebuild the same thing as before would signify, yes we're back and bigger than ever, but would also resonate the fact that america is still in it's own little world, that nothing happend and nothing changes at all. would be nice but fact is that ain't the truth. by building something completely different but still remind us of that event projects a much more "sign of the times" sort of attitutude. the new construction says we know what happened but we're still going to rebuild anyways, tear us down and we'll keep on building away. it shows resilience and that never say die attitude. that is the most important message that we can send through the construction of the new building.

Yes, you make sense. The ONLY part of that --- that bothers me any is the fact that we could spend all that money (or whoever) building them back up and that would be great -- but what if Osama decides -- "we'll show them again" --- and does it all over again? I mean - it could happen. Would we possibly be asking for more trouble? I don't know. Life is a gamble either way - I always say that. Who knows?

No. They were unattractive and who wants to work on the 150th floor for heaven's sake? Why provide another target for crackpots? Put up a beautiful monument instead. We have nothing to gloat about.

I don't think they should. It only brings back bad memories for me. I like the idea of the "Freedom Tower."
