It's an agression reaction to the flight-or-fight response. Psychological studies have shown that some men react to stressful situations with signs indicitive of sexual arrousal, sometimes including erection.
It has been suggested that this could be caused by congitive dissonance about one's own sexuality, but that it not yet experimentally verified to a satisfactory degree.
Just be thankful that you don't respond the other way. Some men just can't get it up in stressful situations (such as sex with a new partner).
For this reason, it's my personal opinion that it's an evolutionary reproductive advantage, and not neccesarily the result of a pent-up sexuality.

Me too! So you're not alone. People react in different ways to stresses, and in your (our) case your bodies emotions / feelings become heightened when nervous or agitated resulting in the said situation!

Don't worry, the only time I don't have one is when I'm nervous. So who's worse off?

Ha ha, fantastic! so if someone jumped out from under the table and scared the sh*t out of you, would you just get a giant ***** and prod them in the head with it? When I get nervous I play a round of golf. try that. woot!

This is very common. Many erections are not "sexual". Some are caused by stress...some by intense relaxation (like when we are asleep, we have many erections.). Stress can cause an erection faster than sexual stimuli can. It's our bodies offering us a way to relax. It's normal and healthy.

its called "excess blood flow" from your heart and head to your genitalia. leaving you light headed, accelarated heartbeats and hard on . its very natural . just wear baggy clothes when u r going to any occasion where u r likely to get a stiffie. plus if therez a girl involved, it may be a good thing. :)

People react to nervousness differently. I myself laugh histerically and uncontrolably. It just draws more attention and makes things worse. Maybe it goes back to the first time that we were embarrased.
