Every time I go to the doctor with a concern he wants to Rx me some new medicine. I have had other doctors do this too. It seems like they would rather push the pills than recommend healthier options like diet change, exercise or physical therapy. Why is that?

Because they are soldiers for the pharmaceutical giants, whom fund their medical schools. Plus, time is money, it's easier to say "what's wrong?" "Ok, here, take this pill, next..." Than it is to sit down, inquire about your history, your family's history, you know, the things doctors used to do.

Plus, with our current medical system, how would a physician make money if you were healthy; not complaining about some NEW syndrome they invented?

People are tired of it, taking responsibility for their own health; seeking alternative approaches to wellness. You question is proof.

He likes the freebies he gets. Also if he is an HMO or whatever plan that some Docs are on then he losses $$ if he Doesn't prescribe at least a certain amount of specific a med. I had one that prescribed Celebrex for EVERYTHING. It was insane no matter what the problem was this man gave a RX for Celebrex. He gave it for arthritis (sp), menstraul cramps, migraines, an injured back, even a sinus allergy!

Doctors are so busy with patients that they don't have time to pursue alternative health solutions with their patients... which is why I don't like doctors. If you have the option, I'd recommend seeing a nurse practitioner. They have the same authority as physicians, only they were trained as nurses. I'm a student nurse and let me tell ya, we're trained to find those alternative solutions- it's a good thing.

A lot of clinics nowadays are hiring NPs for their staff, so just call around to different clinics or even ask your doctor if he/she knows any in your area.

Either because they really believe that medications will help or because they believe that is why the patient came to them in the first place. If your Dr does not recommend healthy options, then you should seek a new Dr.

It sounds as if you know that your should be trying heathier living options, so read up on them on the internet and try them! Maybe you won't need to go to the Dr anymore.

Because that's what most people want to hear these days. They're too lazy for diet and exercise- they want a quick fix.

Also, the pharmeceutical industry is a HUGE profit machine, and the doc get all kinds of kickbacks from drug companies trying to peddle their wares. When a company gives you a free vacation, aren't you a little more likely to endorse their product?

Yeah! The drug dealers use to be on the streets, now they have degrees and advertise on TV!

Our doctors treat symptoms, and there is a pill for everything! Sometimes they get free meds to give out, and other times they have sweet deals with the drug companies.

Have you noticed they advertise drugs on TV for things that we have never heard of? Lots of money there!

They push pills because they get a kick back from the pharmaceutical companies..that is they get money from the companies that make the meds or a percentage for the amount they sell. Very sad.

Because the Pharma companies give doctors incentives to push their drugs.

Depends on what "concerns" your presenting. If you have a nasty cold, a healthy diet won't give you relief. But if you are suffering with heartburn it may. Hard to answer without knowing what ails ya...
